Title: Anecdotes of the Celebrated William Hogarth, with an Explanatory Descr
Description: 1813. (HOGARTH, William) ANECDOTES OF THE CELEBRATED WILLIAM HOGARTH, WITH AN EXPLANATORY DESCRIPTION OF HIS WORKS. [By Thomas Cook.] London; Printed for John Stockdale, Piccadilly, 1813. This title was first published to accompany Cook's Hogarth Restored (1802); the volume contains descriptions (only) of Hogarth's plates, not actual plates, and the text of Hogarth's The Analysis of Beauty, also without plates. This is a later printing. vii,422 pp. Octavo. In a worn contemporary binding of quarter calf, with gilt title at spine, and marbled boards. The boards are heavily rubbed and worn; the lower joint is starting. The ffep. is missing, but the text is complete. Text leaves show occasional light soiling and/or foxing. A good-plus, and nicely printed, reading copy. .
