Author: HAZELTON, WILLIAM HARRY; DAVEY, RICHARD (EDITOR).
Title: Pieces of Iron: A High Romance of Sailing Ships, the Australian Goldfields & the Islands of Solomon.
Description: Tasmania Round Earth Company, 2011. Paperback (with flaps), very good condition, black & white photos, light bump top spine, minor edgewear. 277 pp. This book is a high romance of the 1850's. It follows the fortunes of Stormy, bosun and master sailor, and Thomas Sheridan Conroy, ship's officer. After epic voyages they are stranded in Australia, when gold is discovered in Victoria and they join the rush with very dramatic results: a gold discovery leads to a disappearance, and a mystery unresolved for fifty years, when Thomas' grandson discovers a sea-chest in the Solomon Islands. Written in the 1940s during World War II, the original manuscript was burnt. Ten years later a copy was discovered with a publisher and eventually returned to William Hazelton's family. This book is edited by the author's grandson. ISBN: 9780975005132.
