Originally published in 1867.) Written anonymously by a clergyman, Rev. John Morison of New South Wales, who spent 13 years traveling in the interior. Comments on conditions in Australia (the bush, pioneering, squatting, droughts and floods, convictism, matrimony), the depravations of the Aborigines, and the atrocious retaliation measures. Publication in London had an impact because there were two reprints. This book will interest anyone interested in early Australian history as it presents a glimpse of two countries.
