The introduction, which extends to p. XXIX, gives a very fine account of the properties and application of logarithms. Various logarithmic series are developed in an interesting manner. The 'Thesaurus' is almost certainly the table of 10-figure logarithms which has been until recently most generally used.': Gauss tested the tables and found them to be very correct.
