(3 (of 4) green silken ties preserved.). (Author's authorisation in ink on page 109, dated 1675.). (Errata corrected in ink by the author himself.). First edition, earliest variant w. the mistakes in the text corrected in ink by Ferguson himself, the author's authorization in ink on leaf O3 recto [p. 109] dated 1675: Van der Aa, F, p. 22, described Ferguson as a '... voornaam beoefenaar der Algebra...' [His 'Labyrinthius Algebrae' was published by Jacobus Scheltus in 1667]. Not in Kress: Not in Fundaburk: BdH, 1396 & 1397 [appendix]: Econ. Hist. Bibl. 181: First and only edition. Contains tables for calculating the height of contributions to be made by the Seven Provinces to the States General, accompanied by a number of examples. Deaccessioned copy from the national archives, in all probability a copy especially requested by and presented to the States General. The gilt supralibros [arms of the Republic], a lion facing left brandishing a sword and a sheaf of arrows, in an oval, surrounded by a floral border hemmed in by a double giltruled line ['Hof van Holland'], must have been placed on the binding mid 18th c. Idem, Achttiende eeuwse Haagse boekband [1976], p. 430, plaat A Republiek: Kossmann, De Boekhandel te 's Gravenhage, pp. 340 - 346 on the Scheltus family, printers and suppliers of writing needs, to the Court of Holland, the States General and the Prince of Orange, Jacobus Scheltus I [1640 - 1712] active in this function from 1669 [after the end of the services of Hillebrandt van Wouw] to 1687, when his son became 'Landsdrukker'. In 1694 he relinquished his offices as printer to the States General entirely, in favour of his son.
