In 1956 he shared the Nobel Prize with Cournand .. and Richards ... for his work on cardiac catheterization...': Fishman & Richards, pp. 103 - 104: Snellen, Hist. of cardiology, pp. 122 - 125 a.o.pl.: Johnson, History of cardiac surgery, pp. 126 - 127: '[In his article of 1929] he predicted a bright future for cardiac catheterization in the diagnosis and therapy of heart disease.': A groundbreaking and classic article. The 'Nachtrag' on page 2287 consists of about 20 lines in which Forssmann informs us of a communication received by Prof. E.Unger, who states that trial catheterizations were made [together with Bleichröder and Loeb] as early as 1912 by him and his colleagues, using urether catheters.
