Schubert is besonders bekannt als eifriger Verfechter der Lehren Mesmer's vom thierischen Magnetismus und als Verfasser einer Reihe naturphilosophischer und mystischer Schriften...': See Ellenberger, 205/6 : Schubert, professor of biology, psychiatrist and mesmerist, greatly influenced Freud and Jung: Schubert was well known for his 2 volume 'Geschichte der Seele' published in Berlin, 1830. His 'Die Krankheiten und Störungen der Menschlichen Seele', published 15 years later, supplements the former work. The 'Spiegel der Natur', also publ. in 1845, is a popular work intended 'zur Belehrung der reiferen Jugend' which encompasses a plethora of subjects from the field of physics, chemistry, natural philosophy. Among the subjects covered: instinct, aeronautics, construction of the eye, metals, heat, steam, thermometers, air pressure, galvanism, electricity, lightning conductors, magnetism, aurora borealis, the sun & temperature of the earths surface, daguerro type & photography, light, life force etc. etc.
