The text is based on two lectures held at the City's Drawing academy, where Ploos van Amstel was director, in 1768 and 1770. According to the preface the 27 anatomical plates were produced after recent editions of Albinus (Tabulae sceleti), Camper and Bonn (Eustachius).: Laurentius: Ploos van Amstel, i.l.c.: Choulant Frank, p. 314 etc.: 'C. Ploos van Amstel, an artist and copper engraver, who was also well - known as an art collector and as a maker of coloured copperprints, ... The plates are from line drawings, very cleanly engraved faithful sketches from nature.
