Description: Leide, Chez Jean Luzac, 1735. 8vo. W. small engr. vign. on pr. title. Title in red and black. Original 18th c. binding w. elaborately gilttooled spine, w. the covers in a matching colour brds. The spine seems to be made up of a very thin layer of leather laid down on the original boards. No rebacking! Very expertly done. (Corners rubb.; spine ends minimal imperf.). [*4, A- P8, R4]. (VIII, 236, I (table), I (Blankl) pp.). (Occasionally a few spots, unobtrusive watersp. pp. 5 - 11.). (All edges red.). (Green sliken reading ribbon.). First French translation. Blake p. 170: Very good copy in interesting mixture of leather spine and paper brds.Well executed. Hirsch vol. II, p. 702: Gazola criticizes the practical doctor and syas that a good doctor is hard to find. As many patients die from bad treatment and wrongly prescribed medicines as do from the disease itself. Gazola is strongly opposed to any dogmatism in medicine as well as against Galenism. Originally published in Venice in 1716 it was translated into a number of languages (Spanish, French, Dutch). The french translation 1735 appeared in the same year as the dutch translation which was published in Leyden as 'De Waereld door onervarene of schein-doctoren bedrogen'.
