A popular Dutch songbook containing a wide variety of songs befitting a wide variety of occasions, such as weddings, funerals, sing alongs, pub gatherings etc. A number of the songs in the second part are 'snaakze Gezangen', indicating the 'risqué' nature of the contents. The gathering of songs offered here also sing praise of a number of Dutch [West Frisian] towns, such as Alkmaar, Purmerend, Hoorn, Enkhuizen, Edam. There is also a number of songs celebrating special occasions or festivities, such as Sint Nicolaas. Most of the songs are by unknown authors / composers, a small number of them are signed 'J.J.D', 'S.W.', 'J.Engels', 'R.J. de Winter', etc. Scheurleer, Liedboeken, p. 186 - 187: Scheurleer, Catalogus Muziekbibl. vol. Ze danken die naam aan de herder Mopsus die in antikiserende herderszangen pleegt op te treden. De mopsjes dienden voor bruiloftspartijen en andere vrolijke gezelschapen. ...
