Description: This copper engraving depicts an advancing and plundering [Spanish?] army, destroying anything and anybody in their way. Engr. or textlines by 'R. Lubb.' 17th cent. Meas. appr. 23.5 x 33.5 cm. skilfully remargined. In the foreground a man on a horse and a lady falling victim to 5 soldiers. In the background a city being ransacked and burned. Armies clashing, many ships landing on the beach. 'Yzeren Eeuw' possibly referring to the 'Yzeren Hertog'?, the Iron Duke or Ferdinand Alvarez de Toledo, Duke Alva, who came to the Netherlands after the 'Beeldenstorm' in 1566 as Commander in Chief of the Spanish Army. From december 1567 on he was also the 'Landvoogd'.
