(In this copy no 'subscribers' and 'errata' leaf.). (W. bookplate on upper paste down: 'Francis Beaufort', his motto 'Fortiter in re at suaviter in modo'). Bibl. Univ. XX, 201: Viguier (1745 - 1821) was a French orientalist: Brunet V, 1222: This is the fourth book known to have been printed at the French Embassy at Pera ['where Choiseul-Gouffier established a press in 1787', see note Blackmer sale]. From 1783 - 1802 Viguier was in Constantinople as apostolic prefect. 'His grammar was the first to distinguish in Turkish the exclusive use of either gutteral or palatal vowels within one word.'. Only a few books were printed at the Embassy and although these were intended for the exclusive use of the Turks, some copies found their way to France supplied with a French title.: Blackmer Collection, item 1732: Blackmer Sale, 1061: Attabey, 1290.
