[unsigned], engr. fold. portrait ['de Moor pinx / P. van Gunst sculp.'], depicting Dekkers aged 47, 21 engr. plates and 1 textill. Modern half vellum, over orange brown paste paper brds. (28, 454; II (Half title), II (Printed title vol. 2, verso blank), 455 - 928 pp.). (Libr. st. and owners signature ['Arnoldus Lucasz Riedijck(t?) Chirurgijn'] in ink on half title; throughout the book a waterspot in the upper half of the text, mostly vague, but on quite a few leaves [appr. 60 - 80] in the beginning and at the end quite obtrusive.). (A small tear in the lower blank margin of leaf 4I, no loss.). Hirsch vol. II, p. 206: DMB c. 412 - 413: Dekkers (1644 - 1720) was Prof. of medicine at Leyden. Among other things he was the first to describe clearly 'Proteinuria, noting precipitation of urine with heat or acetic acid' in his Exercitationes (1673), (Comp. G&M 4204.1) and also Dekkers first described 'Albuminuria' (comp. G&M 4161). Dekker's books on medicine dealt with diseases arranged into subdivisions according to the remedies prescribed. Dekkers was noted for his excellent medical and surgical observations. Among his teachers we find Franciscus Le Boë Sylvius and Florentinus Schuyl.: BMN vol.
