G&M 5488: A very early publication, possibly the earliest, on the flu or influenza discussing the epidemic outbreaks of this disease from the 16th century up to the date of writing. Saillant begins his survey of epidemics with the outbreak in Nimes in July 1557 of the socalled 'coqueluche' , followed by descriptions of outbreaks in 1580, 1658, 1669, 1676, 1702, 1729, 1732 [Edinburgh], 1734, 1737, 1741, 1743, 1761, 1775, and 1780, the year this publication was printed. From page 107 to the end Saillant offers his conclusions based on the data of the preceding outbreaks and describes various forms of treatment. Charles Jacques Saillant [1747 - 1804], see Hirsch vol.
