(Righthand margin some soiling and and a few foxed spots.). 18th c. handmarbled paper covers, protecting the original blue grey paper covers that have been preserved, w. chips, a little dogeared, some surface soiling. [n1, *7, A - K8, L2]. (II, XIV, 1 - 164, III (19th c. alphab. index handwritten in ink), I (blank) pp.). (Uncut.). (Large paper copy, extra quality paper.). Originally published in 1758 [Amst., Pieter Yver], here in a posthumous and amended version, adding the pages V - XIV in which a detailed index of the paintings' locations in the Town Hall. Description of the paintings at the Amsterdam townhall (now Royal Palace) on Dam Square, together with short biographies of the painters. Jan van Dyk, in the preface, discusses his intention to publish a magnificent print series, all by the best engravers and in large size, of all the paintings in the Town Hall. The first engraving of the series to be published at the time of publication of this booklet, being the 'Raadkamer' , meeting place of the Amsterdam 'Vroedschap'. Jan van Dyk [ca. 1690 - 1769] 'In 1747 van Dyk was employed by the city as restorer of the city's paintings collection under the painter Jacob de Wit and he continued in this function until his death in 1769...'
