Description: Norimbergae [Nürnberg], J.A. Endterum & Wolfgangi Junioris Haerades, 1662. Thick 4to. W. printed title in red and black, 1 engr. ill. in the text [at p. 125]. Contemp. full vellum, title in ink on spine, some soiling of covers. (VIII, 722, XLII (index) pp.). Third, best and much enlarged edition. Caillet 10599: Wheeler 152: Collection of tracts by different authors on the 'Weapon Salve' and the 'Powder of Sympathy'. Frequent references to amber and the magnet; symthetic compasses, p. 546.': One of the best collections of texts on the sympathetic powder. A fine copy of a compendium on Digby's famous sympathetic powder. DSB IV, 95/6: 'In 1657 his increasing poor health led Digby to take the waters of Montpellier, where he gave his famous account of the "powder of sympathy", which cured wounds by being rubbed on the weapon that inflicted them. It was a strong solution of vitriol (copper sulfate) in rainwater... it worked in combination of occult and natural powers, that is, by attraction and by the small material particles given off by all objects.': It was supposed to cure at a distance and is of interest also for its references to magnetism.
