W. 1 engr. folding plate in 3 parts, viz. a Map of Antarctica, 'Hemisphaerium Antarcticum Speculi Cosmographici inserendum folio 37', a small map of appr. 15.5 x 16 cm, the mid section an engr. of an astrolabium 'Figura fabricae Astrolabij particularis pro folio A.', meas. appr. 15. 5 x 16 cm and lastly the volvelles parts belonging to the previous engraving 'Partes mobiles Astrolabij particularis applicande figurae fol. A....', meas. appr. 15.5 x 10.5 cm, numbered top left 'V, at E2 verso - E3 recto, pp. 36 - 37, engrs. and text soiled, astrolabium engr. w. dark stains. The engr. portrait and 6 other plates and volvelles inserted in photo reproductions [made in the 1960ties from the Univ. Library of Amsterdam copy], but these seem NOT to belong to this variant. Wet. in Belgie van de oudheid tot 1815, 198]: '...Ernst van Beieren (1554 - 1612], aartsbisschop van Keulen en prins-bisschop van Luik. Deze laatste was een belangrijke maecenas voor de wetenschappen en verzamelaar van wetenschappelijke instrumenten. Hij gaf onder andere de opdracht aan Adriaan Zeelst en de astronoom Gerard Stempel tot het schrijven van een tractaat over de bouw en het gebruik van het astrolabium. De schrijver van de brief informeert naar het verloop van het traktaat, en drukt zijn hoop uit dat 'meester Adriaan' de maker is van de wiskundige figuren, want 'dan zullen ze zeer bevallig zijn.' [p. 227]: Het bovenstaande 'Utriusque astrolabii...', 1602 is opgedragen aan Ernst van Beieren [zie ¶2 & 3]: NNBW, vol. VII, c. 1178: Van der Aa, vol 17, c. 993 - 994, deels onjuiste informatie. Kaartmakers, p. 189: Peter vd Krogt, Globi Neerlandici, no mention of Stempelius: Gerard Stempel [born Gouda around 1546, died Cologne March 1619?] invented a new type of celestial globe and a new method for measuring the altitude of stars, described in this work.
