De wetenschap is den verstandige licht'). Minutes of the assembly of the States of Zeeland and humorous addenda recorded by Michiel Michielzon in rhyme between 1676 and 1684. Up to 1670 it was usual to write out these minutes in full. Following the year 1670 it was decided to publish the minutes in print. Michelzon held on to his routine and produced some 5300 lines in writing and added newsfacts he thought interesting and worthwhile. Thus a vivid picture emerges of 8 years of local politics. From the mid eighteenth century onwards a number of handwritten copies of these minutes were produced. In all some 80 mss copies have been traced. Our copy was made towards the turn of the 18th century. Nagtglas III, p. 170 - 172: Preceding the transcript of the first meeting of June 13 we find the following lines: 'Ik schrijf een koddig Rijm voor al die t wille Leesen / wat dat de weereld is of wat zij schijnt te weezen / hoe alle Soort van volk bij de neus geleijd / door Eygenbaat en list tot slaafschen dienstbaarheyd/. 'De Zeeuwsche Rommelzoo', 12 pages at the end, is a verbatim manuscript copy of the famous 1704 pamphlet, see Knuttel vol. III, item 15196 entitled 'Zeeuwse Rommelso, Daar in verscheyde Couleuren de schielijke onzigtbaarheyt vertoond word, met een korte aan-spraak, aan de bloedvrienden van de overledene Justitie, geschetst door Nostradamus, synde een kints kint van den ouden Mierus.'. This 'hekeldicht' exposes a good deal of people involved in the so called 'Middelburgsche troebelen'. At the end a key in manuscript corresponding to the numbered references in the blank margin, identifying those involved by name. The printed pamhlet is without separate title, in 4to, 8 pp.
