Of importance were his introduction of the dialytic enlarger and an improvement of Woodward's solar camera for enlarging, in 1864... His general/popular treatise of photography, here offered in a 7th edition, discusses a large number of processes and techniques, a.o. albumen prints, glass negatives, stereoscopic cliches, heliogravure, wet collodion process, the heliochromatic process by Becquerel and Nièpce, the effect of light on various photogenic substances.
