[1 in 12, 2 in 12, 3 in 6]. (59, I (blank) pp.). (Ex library.). (Libr. stamps on endp. & printed title; shelfmark in pen on remaining part [2/3rds] of upper free endp.). Rare, early, if not the earliest dutch translation of a work on ether inhalation anaesthesia, published not a month after the appearance in France. Dutch translator unknown. The original title was 'Des effets de l'inhalation des vapeurs d'éther,...'[Paris, Masgana, 1847]. Among those credited with the first use of ether in surgical procedures we find Morton, Dupuy, Pirogoff, Dieffenbach and Johnstone. Pirogoff's publication was published in St.Petersburg '... sur l'etherisation' , April 1847 and is generally recognized as the earliest published on intestinal use of ether.
