Description: 1723. Large folio from 2 plates. Meas. appr. 90 x 60 cm.). Fine engraved views of the front & back of the Corver's Hof [signed lower left 'I. Smit del. et fecit.']. Each printed from 2 plates. Good platemarks, ample margins. (Both engravings w. restorations to extremitries and the rear view w. the horizontal central portion filled in w. japan paper / paper pulp.). Both prints expertly, but in places heavily restored. Paper watermarked w. crowned heraldic Lilly, below which the letters 'WR', couintermark 'IV', see Heawood 1816, 1818 [for the year 1727]. Veiling R.W.P. de Vries 'Oud en Nieuw Amsterdam', 1925, item 1009: Wijnman, Hist. Gids van Amsterdam, vol. 2, pp. 217 - 218: Built in 1722 - 1723 after a design by Steven Vennecool, built on grounds presented by the city council. Financed with capital from the estate of Joan Corver and Sara Maria Trip, who both died at a young age [1688 - 1719 and 1693 - 1721 resp.). The house was built to accomodate elderly, childless couples. The arms of Corver and Trip above the entrance; also a poem in honour of the founders by Mattheus Brouërius van Nidek.
