Description: El Rito, NM: Sangre de Cristo Press, (1969). (1969). INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY RHODA DE LONG JEWELL - Octavo, softcover bound in decorative blue & brown wraps. The binding is bumped with some light creasing to the edges. The extremities are darkened and there are a few small stains & minor foxing to the rear wrap. 75 pages. Illustrated with 6 black-and-white woodcuts by Rhoda Jewell. The contents are very good. Inscribed and signed by the author on the title page: "For our friend Lilli / Rhoda Jewell". Laid in is a slip of paper, with a Venice, California address stamped on it, inscribed by the author "Gift to Lilli / with love and gratitude / Rhoda". Also laid in is a silver colored Christmas card with a poem by Foster Jewell printed on it. The card is inscribed by Foster Jewell on the verso:"Dear Lilli: / We "starved idealists" (actually not starved} send you loving greetings at Christmas", and is signed "Foster" and "Rhoda". Foster Jewell {1893-1984] was an American haiku poet and painter in the early and mid-1900s. He married Rhoda de Long, a piano teacher and fellow haiku poet. They lived in El Rita, New Mexico and Venice, California. Their small publishing company Sangre de Cristo was named after a mountain range in New Mexico Rare. Good .
