Description: 1958. 1958. - Fridolf Johnson's 1-7/8 inch high by 3 inch wide book label, with a floral decorative frame & Johnson's name printed in green, inscribed to Fridolf and his wife by Valenti Angelo. Inscribed & signed "Valenti Angelo best wishes to the Johnsons '58" in purple ink. Fine. The Italian-American printmaker, illustrator and author Valenti Angelo(1897-1982) first worked as a laborer in San Francisco as he taught himself his craft. His linocuts of nocturnal and desert scenes of the American Southwest were particularly popular. Angelo illustrated several books, including Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" and wrote children's books. An illustrator and artist as well as a fine pressman Fridolf Johnson was an editor of American Artist Magazine until his retirement in the 1970's. As a graphic artist, he designed title panels for Hollywood movies and art & typography for advertising as well as dust jacket illustrations. He wrote and illustrated his own children's books in addition to other works. He also compiled and edited the Knopf book "Rockwell Kent: An Anthology of His Work". Fine .
