SIGNED BY SCULPTOR AND PRINTMAKER HUGH TOWNLEY - Thick quarto {11-3/4 inches high by 8-3/8 inches wide], black cloth titled in gilt on the spine in a dust wrapper. The corners of the covers & the tail of the spine are rubbed. The dust jacket is rubbed & chipped. A tear to the top edge of the jacket's front panel & a piece out of its bottom edge have been partially repaired with Scotch tape. 599 pages. Illustrated in black & white with 390 photographs & engravings. There is a small light stain to the fore-edge with a tiny tear to the front edge of the front endpaper. Very good in a fair dust wrapper. Revised and Expanded edition of the classic reference work. From the library of Hugh Townley, signed by him on the front endpaper: "Hugh Townley / Bristol R. I. Sept 1970". Sculptor and printmaker Hugh Townley [1923-2008] worked primarily in wood, but also made monumental outdoor works in concrete. He had over fifty one-man exhibitions in major museums and galleries and was represented in nearly one hundred group shows. In 1972 he received the Rhode Island Governor's Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts. He also had a distinguished teaching career, including posts at Beloit College, Boston University, Harvard, and Brown University, retiring from Brown as Professor Emeritus in 1989. Good .
