Description: 1934. 1934. - An original 8 inch high by 6 inch wide gelatin silver photograph of the French-American opera soprano Lily Pons. The image portrays Lily Pons from the hips up seated on the edge of a floral decorated chair, her right elbow resting on a side table. The soprano is attired in a monogrammed long-sleeved black shirt and grayish skirt. The shade of a table lamp can be seen at left and a bouquet of flowers in the background frames the soprano's head. Inscribed in ink along the bottom of the image and signed and dated "Lily Pons / 1934" by the singer. The edges and corners of the photograph are creased with some minor faint horizontal creases to the portrait. The top edge is very lightly rubbed. Good. The French-American Opera Soprano Lily Pons (1898-1976) is best known for her repertoire in coloratura soprano roles. She was particularly recognized for her performances in the title roles in "Lakme" and "Lucia di Lammermoor". She was long associated with New York's Metropolitan Opera where she performed nearly 300 times from 1931 to 1960 and appeared as a guest artist with opera companies throughout the world. She continued performing as a concert singer until 1973. Lily Pons also played singing roles in 3 RKO musicals between 1935 and 1937 and made numerous radio and television appearances. The French government honored her by awarding her both the Croix de Lorraine and the Legion d'honneur. Good .
