Although his father was a noted physician, the settlement of his estate left young Andrew to his own devices. He followed extended courses at Wabash College in Indiana and while subsequently providing for himself as a teacher, he began the study of medicine. Turning his attention to allopathy after an exhaustive investigation of the eclectic system, he attended Chicago's Rush Medical College. Several years after graduating, he began his studies of homeopathy at the Pulte Homeopathic Medical College in Cincinnati as well as the study of ophthalmology under Professor Wilson. He first practiced in Terre Haute, Indiana before moving to Corsicana, Texas where he set up practice as the pioneer homeopathic physician of the region. Pursuing further education in Homeopathy in New York, he subsequently returned to Texas to settle in Dallas. Good .
