Color frontispiece & color photographic illustrations by Eliot Porter, and black-and-white photographic illustrations & drawings by members of Powell's expedition. The page edges are slightly darkened. Very good.

The photographs and epilogue are by Eliot Porter. The foreword and notes are by Don D. Fowler. However, the main body of the text is Powell's diary. Very good .
