A partial, massive 22-volume set (of the original 25 volumes) offering the histories of various nations or regions of the world. Per the title pages, this set presents "A comprehensive narrative of the rise and development of nations as recorded by over two thousand of the great writers of all ages: edited, with the assistance of a distinguished board of advisors and contributors, by Henry Smith Williams, LL.D." Each volume with several plates bearing black & white illustrations (with a tissue-guarded black & white frontis image, usually of a period writer) and a color map printed on tissue-like paper at rear. The histories range from the ancient world of Greece and Rome, through the great civilizations of Western Europe, to nations of the New World. Volume XXV is a comprehensive index of the entire set. MISSING: Volume I: Preface, Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia; V.II: Israel, India, Persia, Phoenicia &c; V.XXII: The British Colonies and Colonial United States. --- Bound in full light green cloth-covered boards with decorations & titling to spines in darker green. TEG (top edges gilt); the other two textblock edges are deckled. --- Generally, the volumes are in Very Good condition, with some tears to cloth, a bump here and there and occasional small tears to interiors. Three of the volumes had partially-detached covers which have been repaired prior to this listing. (NOTE: Due to the weight of this item, extra shipping charges may be requested.
