Description: Philadelphia: J. W. Bradley, 1859. Hardcover. An account of Christian missionary David Livingstone's (1813-1873) explorations and travels in Africa. Moving eastward on the Zambesi River, he crossed the continent and made observations, including on the tsetse fly. With numerous engraved illustrations, including a tissue-guarded frontis image of Livingstone being attacked by a lion. This edition followed earlier ones by John Murray (London, 1857) and Harper and Brothers (New York, 1858). --- Bound in brown cloth-covered boards with cover decorations in blind; spine titling in gilt. Lacks a dust jacket. --- The cloth has faded and has a 3/4 inch tear to back cover, spine titling is somewhat dulled. With a child's doodlings in pencil to endpapers, a leaf at front of volume has been torn out, otherwise a tightly-bound, unmarked copy.; Small Octavo - 7-1/2 to 8 in. tall; xiv, 9-440 pages. Very Good .
