The story is set in the medieval England of the 12th Century during the reign of Richard I, also known as Richard the Lionheart, and features a large cast of memorable characters. This handsome reprint edition features color and b&w illustrations by Edward A. Wilson (including a portrait of Sir Walter). With the author's unattributed introduction, and a 'Dedicatory Epistle' to The Rev. Dr. Dryasdust, F.A.S. attributed to Laurence Templeton. With author's endnotes and glossary of archaic terms at rear of volume. --- In full red cloth-covered boards with crown-and-crosses blue patterned decorations; titling in gilt on navy spine block; blue endpapers. Volume bears 1950 date, but likely published c.1970s-80s. Slipcase covered in blue paper. Publisher's Sandglass flyer laid in (Norwalk, no. X-R: 40). --- An excellent copy: clean, bright and tightly-bound but with a whiff of sunning to spine and slight signs of wear to extremities. Structurally sound slipcase with some sunning and tears to paper cover, and with a patch of soiling; otherwise undamaged.; Tall Octavo (9 to 10 in. tall); xxvi, 471 pages. Very Good+ .
