CHAPPELL, GORDON - A Short History of Steam Trains over Cumbres: Farewell to Cumbres

Title: A Short History of Steam Trains over Cumbres: Farewell to Cumbres
Description: Golden, Colorado: Colorado Railroad Historical Foundation, 1967. Stapled wraps. A thin pictorial history of narrow gauge railroading over Southern Colorado's and Northern New Mexico's 10,015 foot Cumbres Pass, ("Los Cumbres"), the highest rail pass in the United States. The line also runs through the steep Toltec Gorge. Originally built starting in 1879 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, the line ran from Alamosa, Colorado to Chama, New Mexico and ceased operations in 1967. However, a joint effort by the two states resulted in the 1970 rebirth of the line, renamed the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. This book offers historic views of trains along these tracks; including deep snow, train wreck, trestles, stations and other sights. --- In stapled wraps with image of Rio Grande train crossing a trestle on cover. --- A very nice, sound copy but with slight chafing to edges.; Small Quarto (9 to 11 in. tall); [32] pages. Very Good .
