Description: Privately published, Beccles, 2010, revised edn., paperback, viii, 64pp, half tone photo ills. in text, stapled pictorial montage card wrappers, expanded from the original 56 pages, this revised and enlarged edition relates the history of Ellough Airfield at Beccles, built originally for the USAAF in 1943 it was taken over by Bomber Command in summer of 1944, and then from August until October by Coastal Command and the Mosquitoes of 618 Squadron where they experimented with a technique for using the 'Highball', a spherical development of the bouncing bomb used againt the dams by their sister '617' squadron. Warwicks of 280 squadron equipped with lifeboats in support of ditched US 8th AAF stayed until October 1945 but their company comprised short stays by a number of different squadrons: Baracudas of 827 Squadron Fleet Air Arm on anti-shipping operations; Walruses of 278 squadron, 814 FAA squadron, Barracudas of 810 squadron on anti-midget submarine patrol; etc., the book includes an account of the murder there of WAAF Winifred Evans in November 1944 and the trial and execution of RAF Corporal Arthur Heys, fine,
