The binding of our copy is very worn and soiled, but still intact. The front hinge is cracked. The pages are slightly age-toned with a touch of foxing, here and there. A good reading copy. Edmund Ernest Sheppard (1855-1924) was a Canadian journalist and author. He was educated in West Virginia and spent his early years in Mexico and Texas, returning to Canada in 1878. From 1883 to 1887 he was editor-in-chief of the Toronto 'News', and in 1887 he founded 'Saturday Night', a weekly journal. He published three novels, of which 'Dolly' was the first. It first appeared as a serial in the Toronto 'News'. See Watters 391. .
