Title: The History of England Under the Reign of George III, George IV, William IV, and Queen Victoria / Volumes 1-7
Description: London, London Printing & Publishing, ND (1855). 1st edition. Hardcover. 4to. Seven volume set, bound in publisher's blind-stamped ochre cloth. Nice early bookplate in all volumes. Vol. I (pp. xvi, 272) contains 11 very nice full page steel engravings, three of which show Sebastopol, Constaninople, and Girbraltar. The bds. are bumped, scuffed & quite edge-worn. The front joint is weakening, but still intact. The front hinge is broken, and some of the engravings have detached. The rear hinge has a small split, but is still tight. A few of the preliminary pages are foxed, but o/w the contents are very good. Vol. II contains 12 steel engravings and include several naval victory scences, several 'death' scenes of British military leaders, as well as political and military portraits. The binding is worn & a somewhat soiled, but with less damage to the hinges or joints. Vol. III contains 12 steel engravings, including portraits and naval scenes. It is less worn that the two previous volumes. Vol. IV contains 12 steel engravings, including striking portraits of the Duke of Wellington, Robespierre, Danton, and Mirabeau. Wear, bumping & some soiling to bds. Vol. V contains 12 steel engravings, incl. scenes of the Battle of the Nile, the Battle of Bunker's Hill and the Death of General Wolfe. Cond. of binding similiar to vol. IV. Vol. VI contains 12 steel engravings, including various portraits and a scene of Napoleon's 'Triumphant Entry into Paris'. Binding about same. Vol. VII contains 12 steel engravings, with portraits of politicians (incl. Warren Hastings) and two battle scenes, incl. 'The Siege of Mooltah'. Front endpaper cut out from all vols. Ill.: 83 fine steel engravings. Complete to 1820 in these, the first seven volumes. The references in the Introduction indicate that this set was published in late 1854, or early 1855. Subsequent year volumes not present.
