Quarter leather over marbled boards. Rear joint starting, scuffed overall, some foxing to contents; binding sound, contents clear and legible. With two instances of the ownership signature of John George Bethune: on front free endpaper dated May 1848; and on the following page dated 1850, with "Licentiate College of Physicians & Surgeons of Lower Canada" and annotated "M. D.". With a few signed or initialed colourful editorial notations in the text and following, including one complaining of the binding error: "most shameful".
