Overall a handsome copy of a political commentary, translated out of the French, focusing on France's role in the Low Countries at the time, the undermining of the Pyrenean treaty etc. The author, Franz Paul Baron de Lisola (1613-1674) was an Austrian diplomat who began his diplomatic career in 1639 with a mission to London as Ambassador to persuade Charles I to reinstate the Count Palatine. He represented the emperor Leopold in Poland, Spain and most of all in the Netherlands. His most famous work was Bouclier d'estat et de justice contre le dessein manifestement decouvert de la monarchic universelle (...) which reflected his efforts as one of the chief architects in forming a coalition against Louis XIV. This volume forms an English translation of the work originally published in French. Scarce. 311pp.
