When published in 1919, a few months after the end of W.W.I, "Die Stadtkrone" became a milestone in the history and literature of European Modernism. In this anthology, German architect Bruno Taut champions the use of individual structures to define and affect the planning of anentire city. In his revolutionary urban concept for the reconfiguration of European cities, Taut envisions a centralized communal structure of glass (the city crown) modeled after a medieval cathedral or temple. "Die Stadtkrone" is also a passionate plea from a visionary to the young generations of architects when he asks them to imagine and build the ideal rather thanperpetuate the usual. This work is profusely illustrated with 72 b/w photographic reproductions, illustrations, floor plans and architectural drawings (including four tipped-in), printed to glossy white paper. Last page with listing of publications by Taut, Scheerbart and Behne. Text in German. Inserted a publisher's pamphlet. Condition: The rare dustjacket is missing a part of spine.
