This ceremony honoured the officers and men of the Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) who lost their lives during the Second Boer War (18991902). The memorial features a bronze equestrian statue of a trooper sculpted by William Birnie Rhind, and stands on a rock pedestal adorned with bronze plaques listing the fallen soldiers' names. The unveiling was a significant event, attended by military personnel, civic dignitaries, and the public. Lord Rosebery delivered a stirring speech, reflecting on the regiment's history and valour.
