The Travels of Sir John Mandeville described the travels of an English knight who left England c.1322 to journey throughout Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Persia, and Turkey. The Knight returned with fantastical stories of strange beasts, monsters and mythical creatures and of the strange islands that they inhabited. Interestingly, surprisingly accurate geographical descriptions are woven into Mandeville's stories and whimsy. The authorship of Mandeville's Travels remains unknown. Historians cannot decide whether the author was French or English, though generally agree that the book was originally composed in French. The character of Mandeville was almost certainly fictitious.. G: in good condition. Rebacked with original eps. Leather mottled. Inner hinge cracking. Sporadic foxing and marking .
