Many of these were originally intended to illustrate a history of the town by his brother, Moses Aaron Richardson. The manuscript for that work, however, was never completed. Thomas Miles Richardson (1784-1847) Richardson was born of an old Tynedale family who lived for generations in the neighbourhood of Wark. Evidence of his artistic talent led him to be placed, at the age of fourteen, with a Newcastle engraver. The latter died very shortly afterwards and effectively interrupted Richardson's artistic career. After a brief period as a cabinet-maker, he succeeded his father to the mastership of St. Andrew's School, Newcastle, in 1806. He continued painting in his leisure time and, seven years later, left the school to devote himself full-time to painting. In 1822, together with the engraver Thomas Bewick and others, Richardson inaugurated the first Fine Art Exhibition in the North of England.Twice married, Richardson had a large family. His sons, Thomas Miles jr. and Edward, became notable artists in their own right.. G : in good condition without dust jacket. Modern rebind. No title page .
