Description: 248, Strand, London, S.O. Beeton. 1860, New Edition. Cloth, Sm 8vo. Hardbacks, nine volumes, each measuring 135mm x 218mm tall (5.25" x 8.5" approx.). Pp vii, 288: vii, 336: vii, 312 (plus 4pp 'List of Prizeholders'); iv,284: iv,288: iv,288: iv,288: iv,288: & iv,288, giving a total of over 2,700 pp with engraved title vignettes, very many text figs. and engravings throughout [many full-page], PLUS 106 colour-plates, 57 of which are hand-coloured, single-sided, fashion plates, [the remaining 49 being chromos, several folding and/or on coloured stock [two of which have had archival tape repairs to versos of folds, otherwise all very good]. Withdrawn and sold from the holdings of Keele University, with only a small blind-stamp impression to the blank lower margin of each of the nine title-pages. Contemporary green cloth-covered boards/gilt spine titles, with a two-inch fraying to the upper spine joint of volume one and a few very minor external rubs elsewhere. Undated, but published circa 1860-1864. Photos and/or postal quote supplied on request. Very Good/Later loose protective Jackets.
