Description: 96 pp.The great Ghent psychiatrist Joseph Guislain was at the height of his productivity and in the midst of laying the ground work for the psychiatric sciences in Belgium when he published this Lettre, signed by him. The Ghent Society of Medicine had instructed Guislain to survey the state of medicine in the neighbouring countries, and he published his report in the Annales de la Société de médecine de Gand (annually from 1837). In the present text he reports to the Society about the state of the medical sciences in the Netherlands, making a critical assessment of the institutions and individuals involved. The present publication is an offprint from the Annales (1840), published separately. The present copy is bound luxuriously and was possibly intended as a gift as it contains a presentation inscription by Guislain.With a presentation inscription by the author a Dr. Budde(?). Binding slightly worn at the extremities and with the top of the spine missing; a good copy.l BMN I, p. 438.
