Description: VIII, 71, [1 blank] pp.First edition of a guide for young artists detailing the craft of drawing landscapes, including the rendition of shadows, use of water colour and hand-colouring of engraved prints. The author Evert Maaskamp (1769-1834), at the time a well-known Dutch engraver and print publisher, made all but one of the plates. They include the same two landscape scenes in two and three different techniques (engraving, aquatint, and hand-coloured aquatint), a romantic scene with a tree in the foreground and a bridge in the back, and a frontispiece with guide lines for (horizon) perspective.With a 5 cm tear along a fold of the frontispiece and a tiny tear in the margin, the boards slightly rubbed along the extremities, and the spine discoloured.
