Description: [20], 727 pp.Beautifully illustrated first and only edition of an emblematic fable book for the education of youth by Pieter de la Court (1618-1685), a Leiden cloth merchant and author of the famous political treatise Interest van Holland, in which he defended the politics of Johan de Witt against the Stadtholder. A verse adaptation by Jan van Hoogstraten appeared under his own name in 1731, illustrated with the same engraved plates.Front hinge split at the head, otherwise a very good copy.
