Description: [4], 229, [1] pp.Rare first edition of a practical manual on perspective. The work discusses both linear and aerial perspective, as well as the study of design and painting specifically applied to the landscape. The final chapter describes and explains the use of various colours, such as cobalt blue, Naples yellow, carmine, and Scheele's green, which had not yet been forbidden by this time. The work contains 8 large, folding plates, which illustrate the theory on perspective. It was written by Armand Denis Vergnaud (1791-1885), a prolific author of art manuals for the famous series "Manuel Roret", which the present work is also a part of. It was quite popular as 5 editions were printed in the 19th century. The present edition is the first, and is quite rare, as it is not mentioned in most of the relevant reference works.With a contemporary ownership annotation on the 3rd free flyleaf, and a later annotation ("W.
