Description: [7], "92" [=94], [3] pp.Rarest edition of an extremely rare treatise on astronomy by the Flemish humanist Joachim Sterck van Ringelberg (ca. 1499-1536), to whom the first use of the term Cyclopeadia (for encyclopeadia) is attributed. He studied at Louvain, followed by a student's "grand tour" through Germany, the Netherlands and France, where he met Erasmus and André Hyperius. Ringelberg was a successful teacher in Greek, astronomy, mathematics, and literature, and planned to write one thousand books, which he would call the "Chilias", but passed away when he had only written thirty. Although popular at the time, Ringelberg's books are now of the greatest rarity. The present edition is likely the first, but another was printed in Basel in the same year. The present, however, is more scarce. With a water stain along the outer margin throughout, the fore edge has been cut, affecting the woodcut border on the title page. Otherwise in good condition.l Buisson p. 565; Houzeau-Lancaster 2407; NUC (1 copy); USTC 667090 (9 copies); VD 16 R 2446; cf.
