Description: [75] ll.Very rare edition of one of the earliest known dictionaries of Latin synonyms, by the Silesian humanist and school-director Hieronymus Gürtel von Wildenberg (ca. 1465-1558). It was first published at Wittenberg in 1513, and proved successful, with 20 editions recorded in the USTC. The present edition is the final one, and also appears to be the rarest, as no copies have been recorded on WorldCat and only one in the USTC. We have also not been able to trace any other copies in sales records. The work is divided into two parts, the first part lists words in German, alphabetically arranged, with a wide choice of Latin translations; the second part lists a large number of Latin expressions, alphabetically arranged according to the main word. The edges and corners of the boards are somewhat scuffed, the lower corner on the back board has been restored. A description by an earlier seller mounted on the front pastedown, the upper margin of the title-page has been repaired, contemporary annotations in some of the margins, the work is browned throughout, with small stains on some of the leaves, mostly in the margins, lacking the final blank. Otherwise in good condition.l USTC 662747 (1 copy, mentions only 74 leaves); VD 16 G3950 (also mentions only 74 leaves); this edition not in Claes.
