Description: 30; 31, [1 blank] pp.Rare first Dutch edition of the two main text books by the French architect Pierre Le Muet (1591-1669). His skills as both engineer and architect led Mazarin to charge him with the building or improving of the fortifications of several cities in Picardy. Le Muet also built numerous houses and estates in Paris, as well as country estates. He gained his greatest fame for finishing the church of Val du Grāce, building its facade, dome and vaults. He also wrote two didactic works, here present in their first Dutch editions, translated and the plates newly engraved by the Dutch engraver and print seller, Cornelis Danckers (ca. 1637-1684).All plates were copied from the first collected French edition, published at Paris in 1645, including the two frontispieces, the first even retaining the title in the original French. The first French edition of the first book was published alone in 1626, but the second was first published in French, only as part of the collected 1645 edition.
