Hardbound, old marbled boards with cloth spine, orig. printed wrappers bound in, uncut. Little foxing, very good otherwise. - First half, complete in itself, of this important monograph on the Cretaceous in Gernmany. The second half appeared in 1850. - With ms. name "JRE van Laer" on cormer of title-page, this was Johannes Reinoud Eugen van Laer (1818-1891), teacher of natural sciences in the State Veterinary College at Utrecht, and author of the doctoral dissertation of 1850 on the geology of the Rhine river and its sediments in the Netherlnds. - Bound at the end of the volume is a full translation into French in a well readable hand, by an anonymous translator.
