Trace of vertical fold, spine mended, covers thumbed. - The very rare first eye-witness report of the devastating Krakatoa eruption of 1883 by the prominent Dutch geologist and volcanologist who just the following year published his classic monograph on the Krakatoa and its surroundings. Loosely inserted is a newspaper clipping from the Bataviaasch Nieuwsblad of Saturday 8th March 1884 presenting exactly the same text of the Report (very fragile, folds torn, but complete yet).
